About This Item

London: Michael Joseph. 1962. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the David Cobb illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with some bumping to the spine tips, the cloth and lettering bright and fresh. The contents, with some mild offsetting to the half title and rear endpaper are otherwise clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. The edges of the text block show some mild foxing. Complete with the bright, clean dustwrapper with some very occasional spotting to the underside and some light toning to the edges, but which is otherwise clean and crisp. Not price-clipped (18s net to the front flap). An attractive copy. The tenth Hornblower novel to be published, and third in the chronological series. One of three of the novels adapted for the ITV 'Hornblower' series starring Ioan Gruffudd in the title role. "April 1803, and the Peace of Amiens is failing as Horatio Hornblower takes a sloop on a vital reconnaissance mission." (Wilden 58a).
