About This Item
London: The Folio Society, 2018. First Edition Thus . Hardcover. New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. McLaren, Joe. New set in publisher's shrink wrap. First published in this format by The Folio Society in 2018. Originally written as stand-alone tales, this collection brings all the novels and stories together in chronological order, the better to follow the burgeoning naval career of Forester's affable protagonist during the Napoleonic Wars. This is the real Horatio Hornblower - the naval captain who inspired a film and television series - presented exactly as Forester intended you to meet him. For Folio Society's second set, illustrator Joe McLaren returns with his evocative black-and-white series illustrations and naval-inspired binding designs in this highly desirable collection that also includes meticulous reproductions of Forester's maps: fascinating visual depictions of Hornblower's voyages. Each volume is three-quarter bound in cloth with a printed and blocked cloth front board, and measures 9? x 5¾?. Set in Bulmer. 1072 pages in total. 20 full-page black and white integrated illustrations and 4 chapter heads. 12 maps across four volumes. Printed endpapers. Printed and blocked slipcase. A stunningly attractive set. In series with Sets 1 and 3 from The Folio Society. The first photo is of this actual set. Other photos are stock images from FS as my sets are retained in their shrink wrap and sold as sealed. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Heavy/oversize set. U.K. postage at default charge but overseas buyers will be asked for extra. Enquiries welcome. All items are professionally packed, tracked and/or signed for, and fully insured.
