New York: Random House. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1940. Hardcover. Early printing with green boards, black lettering. Board edges are rubbed, thin black line around the board extremities, and tape ghosts to endpages. Minor staining to inner board edges. Tight and square. Unmarked but for pencilled price at rear. The DJ in mylar has what looks like a faint toned tape ghost across the center of the entire DJ, and trace toning to flap edges. Spine is faintly discolored. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
Synopsis
Horton Hatches the Egg is a children's book by Dr. Seuss, first published in 1940. The book, along with Horton Hears a Who later provided the thrust of the plot for the Broadway musical Seussical. The character Horton appeared again in Horton Hears a Who!, published in 1954. Plot summary The book concerns an elephant named Horton, who is convinced by an irresponsible bird named Mayzie to sit on her egg while she takes a short "break", which proves to last for months.
