About This Item

New York, NY Penguin Books, 1985. Paperback First Edition Thus (1985), Eighth Printing. Very Near Fine in Wraps: shows only the most minute indications of use: just a small, dent at the heel of the backstrip; the expected tanning to the text pages due to aging; some faint creases near the upper corners; else flawless. The binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the backstrip. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of underlining, hi-lighting, notations, or marginalia. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome, nearly-new copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing several minor, unobtrusive imperfections. Bright and clean. Corners sharp. Very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (7.8 x 5.15 x 0.75 inches). 362 pages. Translated with an Introduction by David McDuff. Full-Panel Painting by Glazunov at the front panel. Weight: 8.4 ounces. First Edition Thus (1985), Eighth Printing. Trade Paperback.

Synopsis

Accused of political subversion as a young man, Dostoyevsky was sentenced to 4 years of hard labor at a Siberian prison camp. Years later, he developed this semi-autobiographical memoir of a man condemned to penal servitude for murdering his wife. This haunting and remarkable work ranks amoung Dostoyevsky's greatest masterpieces.
