NY: Scribner's. VG+ book, no DJ. 1st ed. 1905 tp & cp, Scribner seal on cp.. 1905 on tp & cp. 1st, 2nd state. Hardcover. VG+ book, no DJ. TEG. Gilt lettered red cloth. Book cover w minor flaws, else FINE. FINE inside, no aging, foxing, etc . First edition with 1905 tp & cp dates & Scribner seal on cp, BUT: 2nd state as 4 pages of ads at end. FLAWS: Spine heel with 1/8" fraying. Rear outer guter edge with spot of wear; shown on 1st photo. Spine sunned but all gilt lettering still bright. Top tips with wear just into underlying boards. NO OTHER FLAWS. Top edge gilt bright as new. Other edges deckled; which normally collect dust, not so here. Tight, book tends to stay closed when stood on its spine. This a sign of having been read with care. ZERO aging, foxing, soiling, marginalia, etc. .

Synopsis

The House of Mirth (1905), by Edith Wharton, is a novel about New York socialite Lily Bart attempting to secure a husband and a place in rich society. It is one of the first novels of manners in American literature.
