Hudson River School Charcoal On Sand Paper Painting -
Hudson River School Charcoal on Sand Paper Painting
- Used
1840. Very good condition. Fanciful Hudson River school view of the Hudson Highlands, with mountains in the distance, sailing ships on the river, and a long boat approaching shore in the foreground. Made in a muted range of gentle grays and whites, with a few horizontal clouds creating a serene image. A popular technique of the 1840s and 1850s in which the artist created a drawing with charcoal or pastels, highlighting the finished product with marble dust, giving the painting a slightly glittery sheen. Sometimes called "sandpaper painting". 12 x 8 3/4"
