About This Item

Chatto & Windus, London, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/Good. Preface by editor and index. Bright blue coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and brown coloured titles to the back strip. In 1959 Aldous Huxley delivered a series of lectures at the University of California which were remarkable for their breadth of scholarship and vision. His theme was Man's relationship with his planet, and he raised questions which have become, as he foresaw, crucial to the survival of civilisation. These essays have now been edited by Piero Ferrucci and remind us not only of Huxley's intellectual range, his profound knowledge of literature, science and philosophy, but also of the extraordinary clarity and penetration of his thought – paraphrasing the dustjacket blurb Softening of the back strip edges with bumping to the top book corners. Rubbing to the lower book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and pages with signs of the removal of the sticker to the top right hand corner of the free front end page. A previous owner has used a yellow coloured highlighter on page 84. The lower text edge and a little to the front edge has a black coloured ink stain from page hundred and 13 through to page 228. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels. Sunning of all surfaces of the dustwrapper, particularly the back strip and rear panel stop some browning to the verso of the dustwrapper. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [4], V - VIII, [2], 261, [1] pages,. Dust Jacket price-clipped. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo.
