Kurt Baier (1917-2010) was chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. After his retirement, Kurt Baier and his wife, philosopher Annette Baier, moved to New Zealand, the country where Annette Baier was born. [Reference: obituary in University Times, University of Pittsburgh, accessed online April 2024.] This copy has marginalia and underlining on some pages, mostly in pencil. some ink. Ex-libris bookplate on front endpaper, "K. und A. Baier". Split to gutter at front hinge. 5mm tears to cloth at head of spine. 8mm chip to cloth at lower corner of front board. ; Uncommon first edition. ix, [3], 312 pages + 8 pages advertisements.
