About This Item

New York, NY: Portfolio Press Corporation, 1976 Portfolio Press Corporation, New York. 1976. Hardcover. First Edition. Inscribed by the author on the half title verso. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but does have the invitation to a book signing on the half title page and the receipt for the book purchase taped to the DJ reverse (this is visible through and opening in the Brodart jacket paper). Book Condition: Very Good; shelfwear to head, tail, tips and board bottom edges; light toning to pages. DJ: Very Good; wear and missing small pieces at head and tail; light wear to tips; bumping and small closed tears to edges; light rubbing to panels and flap folds. Green endpapers. Clean internals. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 259 pp 4to. This beautifully illustrated book brings out the full story of M.I. Hummel figurines for the first time. The author traces the artist's life from her earliest childhood, through her school years, her achievement at art school in Munich, and the solemn decision to become a Franciscan Sister. The biographical section follows her in the years of her artistic acclaim and the monumental decision to share her paintings and drawings-through the medium of three-dimensional figurines- with collectors around the world. The heart of this book is the collection itself, shown completely in color and fully documented. There is special information about how the figurines are made, the markings used, known variations, lookalikes, and fakes. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket with many Goebel papers laid in and an ARS SACRA Herbert Dubler 1941 Note Card w/ Envelope #10 H 271 Unused. No Intenational Shipping.
