Aspen, CO: Hunter S. Thompson for Sheriff Committee, 1970. First Edition. Poster Poster. Very Good. 21-13/16 by 15-5/16 inches. Screenprint poster, printed on both sides. Front is a poster for HST's campaign for sheriff with a central image of a red fist holding a green peyote button inside a white sheriff's star. The reverse is a defense of 'freaks' under the headline, 'The Earth Belongs to the Living...Not to the Dead.' In describing his campaign as a Freak Power movement -- a nod to the Black and Brown Power groups organizing mostly on the coasts -- Thompson writes, 'A few people in Aspen have...shuddered somewhere between glee and horror at the thought that some mob of gibbering, drug-crazed geeks might be ready to seize the county courthouse and put all the burghers on trial for their lives.' First edition (first printing). Some creasing to the top and bottom edge and a couple of very short edge tears; small surface abrasion affecting a one-square centimeter area of the black printed background.
