About This Item

Not Stated: Not Stated, 1986 HYPERchannel was a local area networking (LAN) system for mainframe computers, especially supercomputers introduced in the 1970s. It ran at the then-fast speed of 50 Mb/second. The networking protocol was entirely proprietary. It was introduced by Network Systems Corporation, whose primary products were solutions for Control Data, IBM, and Cray computers. This document describes a project intended to take the HYPERchannel Monitor Device (HMD) and enhance it. The enhanced HMD would mount to an IBM PC backplane. Its function would be to collect header information and arrange for it to be downloaded onto the PCs disc. The main parties working on the project are named on the front and one has made a pencil comment on the cover. Condition notes: (v), 10 numbered pp + 19 appendices; PB. Pages: clean, bright, tight. Cover: black GBC binding, acetate covers front and back, black titles front, plain spine; v lt edge shelfwear. Of technical and historic interest.
