Volume I was originally published in 1838 with a different introduction and volume II in 1839; these volumes I and II here are the re-issues of 1851 with similar text. The fine large folding maps in volumes II and III show the journeys of Mungo Park, Denham and Clapperton, Clapperton and Lander, Caillie, and Richard and John Lander. From the Taylor Social Anthropology Library, University of Oxford (Bodleian Library) with their bookplates to the front endpapers, discreet stamps to title pages and shelf labels to the spines, a very nice set in a later green buckram. We have been selling antiquarian books on Africa, Oceania, archaeology, anthropology, travel and the ancient world for over forty years.
