About This Item
Quincy, Illinois: Storm-Mollet Publishing Associates, 1954. First Edition, First Printing.
Octavo (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; 215 x 140 mm), 18, [30] pages, in stapled pictorial wrappers.
A supposed exposé of "Red" movie makers in Hollywood. Barry Storm, a treasure hunter, wrote a book called "Thunder God's Gold," which served as the basis for the 1950 movie "Lust for Gold" starring Glenn Ford and Ida Lupino. Storm didn't like how he was portrayed in the movie so he sued Columbia Pictures.
In his pamphlet, he says Columbia made the movie to "communist specifications," although it's unclear what those were. He also calls the movie anti-mining propaganda so, of course, the movie makers must have been communists. His screed is a rambling, convoluted, but oddly fascinating relic of the Cold War. OCLC shows only eight institutional holdings. SCARCE.
CONDITION: Slight soiling to wrappers, staples rusted but pages are bright, clean, and unmarked. A Near Fine copy.
