About This Item

Tijuana: Museo Textil de Oaxaca; Centro Cultural Tijuana, CECUT; Fundación Harp Helú Oaxaca, 2010. color plates, ports., maps, cat., color pict. wrps. OCLC: 743193463. An exhibition that translates the experiences of Mexican immigration through the eyes of Tijuana artist Eduardo Poeter (b. Los Ángeles, lives and works in Oaxaca and Tijuana). Irma Sofia Poeter reconfigured her identity in 2005, changing her name to Eduardo. Over and above a re-appropriation of gender or sexual preferences, her intention was to shake the social preconceptions in the other. The present exhibition is her artistic perception of the interchange between two cultures: Mexico and the United States represented through the fusion of traditional and contemporary textile creations. The exhibited pieces were created inspired in the stories of those who left their country (Mexico), community and life to search for better opportunities in another country (USA) with a different culture. After some time, "they come back home and bring new experiences, ideas and ideologies. The traditional dress that IDentifies them is REinvented, changed, transformed and enriched creating a new identity". Contents: Javier -- Leonel -- La historia de unos retazos = The story of the same cloth remnants / Alejandro de Ávila B. -- Lilia -- Adelfo y Lety -- Yahir -- Retales des-coloniales = De-Colonial Remnants / olgaMargarita davila -- Rey -- Francisca -- Felipe -- Trinidad -- Lista de obra = List of work. LIMITED EDITION OF 1000. ENGLISH AND SPANISH TEXTS.
