About This Item
London: William [Gulielmus] Pickering, 1831. Hardcover. Good. Pickering's Diamond Classics edition of Homer's Odyssey and Iliad. In the original ancient greek, printed in 'diamond type' - 'the smallest ever printed'. A pioneering series that produced classic texts in a compact form with a tiny yet still legible (to those with good eyesight) typeface and bound in cloth, another innovation of William Pickering's. With frontisportrait of Homer and Pickering'd Dolphin/Anchor device to title page (which Pickering copied from Aldus Manutius's renaissance Aldine Press). 64mo. (90x55mm) 351 & 272pp. Spine labels are toned with loss to volume one. Mild discoloration to cloth. Bumping to edges of boards. Mild spotting to front-matter. But otherwise clean and sound. Good.
