Londini [London]: Gulielmus Pickering, 1831 First edition thus. 2 vols., 48mo. (81 x 48 mm), pp. [2] 351 [1]; [2] 272, with engraved frontispiece, lacking half-title in vol.1. Anchor and dolphin vignette to titles. Greek letter. Slight yellowing, frontispiece and title of vol.1 weakening. I: contemporary crushed black morocco, raised bands, a.e.g., extremities and joints a little rubbed, II: contemporary crushed brown morocco, raised bands, inner edges gilt, a.e.g., spine and joints a little rubbed. I: inscription 'J.G. Bert Rev. P. Bowden-Smith Rugby Oct 1832' to ffep. A made-up set of Homer's 'Iliad' and 'Odyssey', the last published of Pickering's 'Diamond Classics' series, and possibly still the smallest ever printed Homer, exquisitely printed in Greek diamond type by C. Whittingham. Keynes records a price of 12s for large paper copies, else 9s. Keynes, p.72.
