Complete in four volumes. Mixed impressions of the illustrated edition: Vol. I third impression; Vol. II first impression; Vol. III first impression; Vol. IV first impression. A complete history of the social development of England from Chaucer's England and the Early Tudors through to the nineteenth century. With illustrations selected by Ruth C Wright. Written by British historian GM Trevelyan. Each volume features coloured frontispiece and three further coloured plates, as well as further gravure plates, illustrations and maps in text. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's uniform full cloth bindings. Externally very smart with light wear to extremities only. Previous owner's gift inscription to front free endpaper vols I and II. dated 1950. Internally, firmly bound. Odd light minor spotting to occasional leaf, pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
