About This Item

Canada: Dundurn Press / New Brunswick Museum. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1985. First Edition. Hardcover. 1550020056 . "Juliana Horatia Ewing was a popular Victorian children's author, admired by such writers as Hans Christian Andersen, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling and widely read by children and adults alike until well into [the twentieth] century. She was a sharp observer of human strengths and foibles and her stories are generally devoid of the sentimentality so often associated with Victorian literature. This book with eight colour and twenty black and white illustrations vividly demonstrates the range and quality of Mrs. Ewing's artistic gifts. The accompanying text recounts her life before and after her two and a half year stay in Fredericton but deals primarily with her experiences in New Brunswick. Her letters and pictures demonstrate an intelligent understanding of the daily concerns of the people she met and offer a rare glimpse of everyday life in Canada over a hundred years ago." - dust jacket. 92 pages. Index. Lovely colour plates. Map endpapers. Light wear to clean and unmarked book. Light wear to attractive dust jacket now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart. A nice copy of this beautifully presented work.; Color Illustrations; 8vo .
