London: Longmans Green and Co, 1883. Hardback. Green leather spine and corners, marbled boards, 192pp. Longmans' Modern Series of educational readers. Short stories by authors incl. Mrs Hemans, Mary Howitt, Hannah F.Gould etc accompanied by b&w illustrations, a selection of words used in the story, split into syllables and key phrases explained. Externally bumped and worn at edges of boards, corners and ends of spine; small loss at ends of spine; scuffed surface on marbled boards. Inside, neat pencil name to 1st free ep; some pages have scattered foxing. Well-used, externally worn but tight copy. Size: 17 x 11 Cm
