London: Printed for the Author at the Chiswick Press, 1878. Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Folio. Pp. [x], 37, [3]; + 29 plates, frontispiece plate, and vignette to the title page (all in accordance with the list of illustrations). Pages measure approximately 38 x 27cm. Publisher's plum cloth binding with gilt lettering, some general wear and marking. Contents loose, the Gutta Percha binding has failed as usual and the pages and plates now separated. Plates very good and clean, uncut letterpress pages and tissue guards variably spotted and bruised to edges. Original black coated end papers. Sold as a collection of plates. [Bibliographic note: Jaggard. p. 234 states that only 75 small paper copies and 25 large paper published. This agrees with the list of subscribers, given on pp. 35 to 37, which lists 84 names of which some had multiple copies and 20 subscribed to large paper copies. All copies offered for sale on the internet and at auction are described as being Large Paper Copies. Because the standard copy will be more common than the large paper it is a little odd that only the latter is ever offered. We therefore assume that these are in fact standard copies and typically have a leaf size of around 38 x 27cm.].
