This work is an interesting look at the artists use of their imagination whilst painting landscapes. Illustrated with fourteen plates, and twenty-five in-text vignettes. With illustrations after Salvator Rosa, J. M. W. Turner, Thomas Gainsborough, Peter Rubens, Nicolas Poussin, Salomon van Ruysdael, Rembrandt, and more. Written by Philip Gilbert Hamerton. Hamerton was a British artist, art critic, and author. He works concerned the graphic arts, and he was also an advocate of contemporary printmaking. He worked as an art critics to the 'Saturday Review', and also established and edited a monthly art journal, 'The Portfolio'. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. A little bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Minor marks to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, though with some spots to the tissue guards. Plate facing page 24 is working loose. Good
