An illustrated two volume lexicon of the English language by the Reverend John Boag, illustrated with numerous full page plates. A detailed and technical lexicon from the mid nineteenth century, bound in full calf. Complete in two volumes.Rev. John Boag (1775-1863) was a pastor and lexicographer best known for this work, with which he aimed to combine etymology, pronunciation and scientific explanation. It took Boag three years to complete it, and it sold very successfully.With a popular English grammar, detailing the history of the language and its use.Illustrated with eighty full page plates, being illustrations of scientific and technical terms, including anatomy, architecture.Plates X, XXXIV, and XXXV have been bound into Volume II instead of Volume I.Collated and complete. Containing the bookplate of Sir Arthur Osmond Williams (1849-1927), a Welsh Liberal politician, to the front pastedown. In full calf binding. Externally, smart, with shelf wear to the boards and rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Bookplate of Sir Arthur Osmond Williams to the front pastedown of each volume. Internally, front hinges are tender. Remaining binding is firm. Plates X, XXXIV, and XXXV have been bound into Volume II instead of Volume I. A few instances of light spotting to the pages, not affecting readability. Very Good
