Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Both volumes: Gilt-stamped brown half leather with tan paper over boards, 5 raised bands on spine, top edge gilt, fore edge uncut, red ribbon sewn in, frontispiece etching by A. Hervieu; Volume I: (xv), 440 pages; Volume II: (vi), 408 pages, Appendix. Both volumes: Corners and spine ends bumped and slightly worn, spine sunned, covers scuffed, text block toned; Volume I: front cover toned, end papers offset by leather title page offset by frontispiece, frontispiece plate toned, small stain on right side of image; Volume II: foxing on first few pages, affecting frontispiece, title page offset by frontispiece.
