About This Item

This Signed First Edition, First Printing copy of "Indescribably Grand", Diaries and Letters from the 1904 World's Fair, Edited and with an Introduction by Martha R. Clevenger was published in 1996 by the Missouri Historical Society Press. The book is inscribed on the Title page with the note "To Heather, with best wishes. Martha Clevenger". The 9 inch by 11 inch book contains xi pages of preliminary material followed by 156 pages of text and illustrations dedicated to the history, description, and the writings of four very different Fair visitors, each of whom had made multiple visits to the Fair. Their diaries, memoirs, and letters reveal the wealth of sensation and emotion that overwhelmed visitors to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.

The book is hard bound in white cloth covered boards with gilt lettering on the front and spine and a marbled design on the end papers. The book is enclosed in its original stiff paper dust jacket, which has a picture of the fair grounds on its front face and a description of the book on the back side. Both the book and its dust jacket are in like new condition.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the front face of the Dust Jacket, the Title page with the signed inscription, a 2-page spread showing the first page of the Introduction and a photo of the fair-grounds, and two (2) typical 2-page spreads of text and illustrations.

About Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
