London: Mr. William Heinemann, 1920. Limited leather edition from Mr. William Heinemann; 1920 early printing. Large finely crafted volume in slip-case measures 8 x 10 1/4" x 2" and weighes over 4 1/2 lbs. Dark brown pebbled morocco (leather) boards, gilt accents and spine titles, light shelf wear. Spine features four raised hubs or bands w/gilt decoration, and five panels with gilt borders and titles in two. Varying crisp gilt decoration, vignettes, and borders to front and back boards. Gilt dentelle borders to perimeter of pastedowns. Pastel colored thick flourishing endpapers varying at front and back. Frontispiece mounted color plate adjacent to half-title page: "Hey ! up the chimney, lass ! Hey after you!" Rough-cut deckled heavy stock pages near fine; no writing. Smooth bright gilded top edge. Bind fine; accordian hinges intact. Bright red silk ribbon page marker. Includes rare slip case with dark brown leather to opening edges and cut to curve of volume's spine. Features two dozen richly detailed tipped-in illustrations mounted on greyish green thick matte paper; each with adjacent captioned page guards. Also graced with a dozen monochromatic, tinted full-page design of Arthur Rackham. Additional full and partial-page imagery, vignettes, and decoration throughout. This three series of tales, and miscellaneous poems, includes such tales as: The Witches' Frolic; The Ghost; Legend of Hamilton Tighe; The Merchant of Venice; The Ingoldsby Penance; The Dead Drummer; The Wedding Day; The Confession, etc. Includes a preface to First & Second Series by Thomas Ingoldsby and a prefatory note by A.
