About This Item
New York: Thomas Y. Crowell & Co., 1843. Ingoldsby, the pseudonym of Richard Harris Barham (1788-1845), first appeared in 1837, published in a periodical as a series of mythical sketches and stories. They were immensely popular and went to many editions (this edition, however, does not appear in WorldCat). No date, but presumed to be 1843, due to inclusion of the Preface to the Second Edition. A previous-owner signature on the FFEP is dated 1858. This is a Very Good copy. Brown cloth with fancy blindstamped mythological design on the front cover, gilded. Minor rubbing at the head and foot of the spine, which has faded just a bit; mildly bumped. Gilt edges. Clean text; 550 pages, still bright and quite readable. There is a split to the gutter of the dedication page, but it is holding. An attractive Victorian volume, rather scarce in this printing. No dustjacket Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Second Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
