London: Richard Bentley and Son, Publishers in Ordinary to Her Majesty the Queen, 1877. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. George Cruikshank, John Leech, and John Tenniel. Quarto. xiv, 514 pages. Hardcover bound in decorative full green morocco with cover designs embossed in gilt. The spine and the edges of the boards are faded to brown. There are a few dark spots about the edges of the binding. Raised bands with 6 compartments on the spine with decorative gilt stamping in the compartments of ravens, a helmet and another design. The front and rear boards also have decorative gilt stamping showing ravens, etc. All edges gilt. The binding is rubbed and bumped at the corners. Hinges secure. Marbled endpapers. The flyleaves are foxed. The text is a bit toned but is generally clean. Illustrated throughout. A very attractive edition. A collection of poems and other writings based on earlier legends, including a number of stories based on witches, ghosts, the Devil, etc.
