First edition, second issue. Page numbers are present for xvii-xviii.; Last entry on p. xviii reads "Thankful Devotion-A Newspaper Valedictory-Conclusion."; Illustration on p. 129; P. 643 shows "Chapter LXI"; Text ends on p. 651 followed by five pages of ads with "Personal History" on p. 654.

Octavo. xviii, [19]-651, [5, publisher's advertisements] pp. Two frontispieces and fourteen inserted plates, text illustrations.

Original publisher's half brown morocco over marbled boards, gilt-stamped spine with five raised bands. All edges marbled. Hinges cracked but sound. Extremities and corners rubbed, edges bumped. A very good copy.
