About This Item

Halifax, NS: Nimbus Publishing Limited. Fine in Fine dust jacket. 2003. First Edition. Hardcover. 1551094606 . Excellent condition, hardcover and jacket fine. Oblong book - 10 x 11 in. Hardcover clean and unmarked. Jacket has no tears, light scuffing/light scratches to rear. Beautifully illustrated in colour. ; Oblong 4to 9" - 11" tall; 90 pages; In the time honoured tradition of the Old Masters, Dusan Kadlec’s paintings are both simple and profound. His many paintings transcend being simply illustrative or representational art. Instead his art evokes within us a sense of nostalgia for bygone Halifax. This feeling for 19th century Halifax is not merely the consequence of his chosen subject matter, but rather a very conscious effort by the artist to romantically portray the mood, the atmosphere, the very essence of a place and time. Through his unique and immediately recognizable style, his old world lighting, texture, and obvious attention to every detail, Dusan Kadlec manages to convey the viewer to another era. This is one of the things that make his work so broadly and genuinely appealing. He not only presents us with an insight into our past; he somehow leaves us with the impression that he has actually been there and perhaps more importantly that in some way he has managed to take us there for a moment as well. Dusan Kadlec’s compassionate studies, meticulously researched through extensive archival sources, have become highly sought after and are now considered by numerous collectors around the world to be the standard to attain in this type of painting. His vivid canvases of nineteenth and early twentieth century life in historic Halifax continue to win an ever-increasing number of fans. The old port city’s urban and maritime heritage has been preserved for future generations. (690-0514) .

NOTES ON SHIPPING: All Items ship from Canada via Canada Post.
  • U.S. Customers: Airmail options only. Surface mail has been discontinued. Expedited option is Tracked Packet or Expedited Parcel.
  • Canadian Customers: due to Canada Post's excessive charges, shipping within Canada has gotten quite expensive. Prices don't increase dramatically with size and weight, so multiple items in the same order can be more cost effective. Also, items which can ship via letter mail will reduce shipping costs considerably. Feel free to inquire.
  • International/Overseas (non-U.S.) Customers - Please Note: Due to recent extremely slow deliveries and customer complaints for overseas surface mail, I have had to switch shipping options to the more expensive tracked/insured option. The lower priced surface mail or airmail options may be available for lower priced items. Please inquire. Also, we cannot be held responsible for items lost in shipment if you have not chosen the tracked/insured method.
  • Our Shipping estimates are based on an average sized book, weighing up to 500 grams (or approx. 18 oz.) and your actual shipping cost may vary. If your book is small or very light (i.e. a small paperback), shipping will be reduced.
  • If your order is heavy (over 500 grams) or oversized, we will contact you to let you know extra shipping is required.
  • Please contact us if you would like an exact quote on shipping.
  • Credit card payments can be made to Biblio or Paypal.

  • RETURNS: Returns on books in their original condition accepted within 30 days. A restocking fee may apply. Please contact us before returning an item. Please Note that unless we have made an error on the order that all shipping costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. No returns accepted on DVD's, VHS or CD's.

  • Please Note that any shipping time estimates are based on business days only and do not include weekends or statutory holidays.
