About This Item
Philadelphia: Carey, Lea & Blanchard, 1835. Leather. Good. Fourth Edition, "Greatly Enlarged", octavo size, 409 pp. Volume two of a two volume set, comprising an uncommon book of surgical practices used to treat diseases and injuries of the nose and antrum, mouth, neck, thorax, abdomen, rectum, tunica, vaginalis and testis, penis, urethra and bladder, eye, ear, arteries, veins, head, and nerves. Also included is a chapter on amputation, and a chapter on the caesarian section. Much of the text covers specific personal incidents and experiences of injury and illness, and methods of treatment thereof, including many unusual accounts and descriptions.
___DESCRIPTION: Full contemporary tree calf, 12 black and white plates (one with blue), octavo size (9" by 5.5"), pagination: [i-iii] iv-viii [9] 10-409 pp., fourth edition, greatly enlarged.
___CONDITION: Good only, the text block is tight and the volume is complete; the binding is split at the joints and rubbed at the edges, head of the spine beginning to separate at the top quarter-inch, and the contents are somewhat foxed, especially near the plates; overall, despite the issues with the binding, the text is still very readable and bright, a unique and uncommon book, and a good copy.
