Elbert Green Hubbard (1856 â€" 1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher Raised in Hudson, Illinois, he had early success as a traveling salesman for the Larkin Soap Company Hubbard is known best as the founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, an influential exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement He and his second wife, Alice Moore Hubbard, died aboard the RMS Lusitania when it was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland on May 7, 1915

James Whitcomb Riley (1849 â€" 1916) was an American writer, poet, and best-selling author During his lifetime he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and "Children's Poet" for his dialect works and his children's poetry His poems tend to be humorous or sentimental Of the approximately 1,000 poems Riley wrote, the majority are in dialect His famous works include "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man"
