[4], IX, [1 blank], 463, [1 blank]; [4], [1 blank], 681, [3]; [4], 16 pp.Introduction to entomology by the famous French entomologist and coleopterist Jean Théodore Lacordaire (1801-1870). In this work he particularly gives attention to the anatomical and physical aspects of the insects, beautifully illustrated in the 24 plates in the separate atlas volume, which also includes 16 pages with explanations of the plates. Lacordaire describes the earliest physical stages of an insect as egg, larve and pupa, then describes the different anatomical parts of insects, illustrated with very detailed plates that show the exoskeleton and other internal and external structures of the insect body.With some corrections in pencil in the text and margin in a later (?) hand. Bindings somewhat worn, spine discoloured. Slightly stained, but otherwise in good condition and untrimmed.l Hagen, p. 444; Horn & Schenkling 12605; Nissen ZBI 2354; not in Percheron.
