About This Item
In addition to these letters, there is an 8 page carbon typescript (8 1/2 x 11 inches) about Hammond by Mabie that is quite interesting, giving insights into Hammond as a person and inventor. It is a fascinating read, and no doubt would add (if not published, which we have not been able to confirm one way or the other) to the portrait of Hammond known today.
Lastly the archive contains 2 black and white photographs of portions of Hammond's Castle in Gloucester Mass, called Abbadia Mare. Hammond built this eclectic mansion, which stands still today as a museum. Hammond was an American Inventor with a large number of patents, second only to Edison himself. His work was very eclectic, although he was perhaps best known for his work in radio controlled operation of various kinds. Some have termed him the Father of Radio Control.
