About This Item

London: Legend, 1988. First edition. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A first edition copy of this science fiction work by Bruce Sterling, in the unclipped dust wrapper. First UK Edition, scarce edition. In the unclipped dust wrapper. 'Islands in the Net' is a science fiction work by Bruce Sterling. Published in 1988, it is set in the year 2023 in a world where 'nuclear weapons, environmental crises and national politics are all things of the past'. Instead, a global telecommunications system provides friendship and support through economic democratic corporations. The main character's preconceptions start to change as she becomes aware of her company making deals with offshore data-pirates, as well as countries like Grenada and Singapore who still live with a work ethic, natural food, personal wealth, and the petrol engine. Bruce Sterling is an American science fiction writer. He is particularly linked to the cyberpunk genre, and is the co-editor of the Mirrorshades anthology. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent. Dust wrapper is also excellent, with just a bit of edge wear particularly to the top spine region of wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins. Fine
