London: Henry S. King and Company, 1876. Eleven volumes in original box. Essentially no wear to the volumes. Elaborate gilt work on front cover and spine with blind-stamp on rear cover. Cloth is age spotted and spines very slightly darkened. Green endpapers with green silk book-marks. Box is cloth-covered, with some wear and fading of the pink cloth to tan. Front flap corners torn but intact. Original red silk pulls to extract the books from the box. The books have been well-protected by the box. Three volumes of "Poems", four volumes of "Idylls of the King", single volumes of "In Memorium", "Maud", "The Princess" and "Enoch Arden". . Later Edition.. White Cloth. Minor Soiling. 5 1/4"x 3 1/4".

Original brown paper wrappers, worn and chipped at extremities, tears to spine with some loss, staining to covers. Internally, there is foxing and spotting but overall it is in very good condition. Some pages unopened. �� This is the first published book by William Burges, one of the most inventive architects and designers of the nineteenth century. The son of a rich engineer, Burges trained with Edward Blore (the surveyor to Westminster Abbey) and Matthew Wyatt who was Special Commissioner to the 1851 Great Exhibition. Burges worked closely with Wyatt in assessing designs and entries for the Exhibition, particularly for Pugin's hugely influential Medieval Court. Eleven full sheet letterpress broadsides on Mohawk Vellum including one title sheet and one sheet stating this is Denise Levertov's copy "L" in the lettered edition of twenty. One narrow broadside sheet. Two spoiled full sheets of Raymond Carver Three Stories on dark yellow paper. Gray buckram boards, printed paper tag mounted on the cover, heavy cream paper pouch. Several of the broadsides are illustrated, and each is individually numbered in an edition limited to 150. Pouch has a three-inch tear at the top of the inside edge, else Fine. Levertov's poem illustrated by Elizabeth Quandt, Gallagher's by William Houston, Schevill's by H. North Hills: Bird & Bull Press, 1964. Octavo. 91pp. One of 200 copies. A biography on the life and work of Thomas Bird Mosher, the remarkable New England publisher and literary pirate. The Passionate Pirate is one of Henry Morris's earlier titles. In making it, he was plagued with both papermaking and printing problems, since he had recently acquired a new papermaking beater and a new printing press. The first bindings on the books were disastrous, and the entire edition had to be rebound. This copy is inscribed by Morris "For my good friend Remy Green" and dated 11/15/64. Remy John Barcham Green worked for, and later ran, J. Barcham Green Ltd., which operated the Hayle Mill in Kent, England. Morris was in frequent contact with Remy and his father Jack (John Barcham Green II) when he first began his papermaking journey in the 1950s. Title page in Volume 1 in both English and French.. Publisher's original cloth in a small sand grain design. This is clearly Winterbottom's Type 'M' (Tomlinson). Krupp (p.30) notes this as San1, but without a Winterbottom cross-reference. She ascribes an appearance date of 1850 for this early design; to find it on books published in 1835 is a treat. That it would appear on a Pickering work should be no surprise. Pickering started experimenting with bookcloth as early as 1823 through his binder, Archibald Leighton, who was responsible for many innovations in the design and use of early bookcloth. The text constitutes mainly the remains of Thomas of Britain's Tristan Romance, composed in the 12th and 13th centuries in Norman French and Greek, here edited and rendered in the originals by Fr. For obvious reasons, it is especially rare to find such as this with a clean interior. Oblong 32mo. (8)ff. Bound in pictorial wrappers featuring an old-fashioned horse and buggy and the caption "Schnellzeichner". Minor soiling to exterior, else fine.

Signed by the artist, Gordon Murray, who also calligraphed the text of John Clare's poem. Very fine in tan cloth with a watercolor winter landscape set into the front cover. Black cardboard slipcase with paper labels. (2 3/4 by 2 1/2; 70x63mm).
