About This Item

Firenze, Italy: Luigi Pampaloni, 1924. Fair. xviii, [10], 216, [8], I-16, II-20, III-26 p.: illustrations; 25 cm. Brown flexible cloth printed in black. Advertisement on back cover for Veedol motor oil. Advertisements throughout. Automobile Club di Milano -- at head of front cover and title page. Bookplate on front fixed endpaper of poet Leolyn Louise Everett. Leolyn Louise Everett Spelman (1888-1971) and her husband, composer Timothy Mather Spelman, spent much of their time in Italy, particularly in Florence. This guide is entirely Italian and heavily illustrated, with many advertisements. An interesting guide to the Umbrian region of Italy in the 1920s, even without the maps, which some unkind person has removed. In Fair Condition: back joint separating from head; ends of spine rubbed and frayed; front hinge largely separated; front free endpaper and first leaf (blank) detached but present; text block separated between I-6 and I-7 (advertisement section); leaf with pages 205 and 206 detached but present; lacking folded map to go in back pocket; the maps called for on the cover and title page are also lacking; pages are unmarked.
