This edition of "Ivanhoe" consists of fifteen hundred copies, of which, this copy is number 1,005. Printed for the members of the Limited Editions Club by Edward Alonzo Miller at The Marchbanks Press in New York. The edition has been designed, and the illustrations and decorations have been cut in linoleum-blocks by Allen Lewis. Hardcover. Bound in matching silver and gray publisher's cloth, textured to resemble chain mail links. Spins bear title and volume number within a shield in red. Illustrated endpapers are a two-page spread of a map of Ivanhoe Country in dark blue, dark seafoam green and beige colors. Leaves are a cream color. Illustrated throughout in dark navy blue, gold and brown, and some smaller illustrations in black and white. Ornamented large initials. Frontispiece is an image of Ivanhoe as a knight on his horse in Volume I, and a cluster of knights with swards drawn in Volume II. Contains an Introduction; A Dedicatory Epistle to The Rev. Dr. Dryasdust, F. A. S., Residing in the Castle Gate, York; A List of Illustrations; Author's Notes and a Glossary. Continuous pagination: [5] xxx, 299 pp., [5] 306 to 612 pp. Slipcase is a tan color with the title in red on the spine. On a shelf, this set spans 2.75 inches. <br><br>CONDITION: Volumes themselves are near fine with minimal shelf wear, and are quite handsome. The chain mail covers add an especially authentic medieval feel to the set. The slipcase is worn with significant discoloration and cracks at the head and foot of the spine, yet still intact. A fantastic set with beautiful illustrations and bright, clean cream pages. <br><br>Additional photographs available upon request. Synopsis

Published in 1820 by author Sir Walter Scott, Ivanhoe is an influential historical romance novel set in medieval England. Ivanhoe represents a departure from Scott’s other novels, and remains his most well-known work. Scott explores many different themes in Ivanhoe, chief among them the rivalry and tension between the Saxons and Normans, feudal injustice as well as the oppression of England’s Jewish communities at the time. Critical reception was very positive at the time of publication, and Scott is credited with renewing interest in medieval England, leading to the publication of other novels set during the Dark Ages. The novel is also noteworthy for being historically accurate, correctly noting key figures and events of the time. In addition, Ivanhoe is also credited with expanding interest in the mythical Robin Hood, who Scott characterized as a cheerful and noble bandit.
