Rider Haggard, featuring his protagonist Allan Quatermain. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. The front of the dust wrapper is pasted to the front paste down. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three black and white plates. Collated, complete. Sir Henry Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was an English author who specialised in adventure fiction set in exotic locations, primarily Africa. He was a pioneer of the lost world literary genre. This adventure novel features his famous protagonist Allan Quatermain. Originally published in serial form in various newspapers, starting in January 1915, this first edition in book form was published on 6 January 1916 in a print-run of 13,500 copies. Printer's imprint with code F.135.1115 at the bottom of page 344. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with a small mark to the rear board and fading to the spine lettering. Pages are age toned but generally clean, with just the odd spot to the first couple of pages. Very Good
