332 pages with frontispiece portrait, diagrams and index. Octavo (8 1/4" x 6") bound in original publisher's beige cloth with silver and red rook to cover in pictorial jacket. First edition In Russian. Gia Nadareishvili was a Soviet chess composer of Georgian nationality (born in Tbilisi), and author of many books on chess studies. He was co-founder, with John Roycroft and others, of the Permanent Commission for Chess Composition (PCCC), a body of FIDE presiding over chess composition. He was the USSR delegate in the annual meetings of PCCC until his death. In 1980 he was awarded from FIDE the title of Grandmaster for chess composition. Nadareishvili composed about 500 studies, winning 21 first prizes, 25 second prizes and 20 third prizes in international tourneys. He published many books on endgame studies, including a collection of 312 studies commented by 43 famous grandmasters. Condition: Corners bumped. Jacket corners and spine ends chipped, edge wear with some closed tears and chips, lightly soiled, sticker tear head edge else about very good copy in like jacket.

Tbilisi: Sabchota Sakartvelo, 1970. In Russian. Hb, 332pp, portrait frontis. Signed and dated by author on title page with inscription in Russian to previous owner ( I think to British composer Charles Bent). Good in a Poor dj which has tears and edgewear. A couple of pages frayed at edges. Back endpaper has pencilled notation in English. Includes 100 endgame studies by the author, 90 studies from Georgian competitions ( by various composers including Nadareishvili), an essay on Queen vs minor piece endings, a brief concluding essay by Vasiliev.. Signed by Author. Hard Cover.
