About This Item

London: Harper Collins, 1995. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 11.5" by 9". Not Stated. A very smart first edition of this work on J. R. R. Tolkien and his career as an artist and illustrator, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition. Illustrated with two hundred images, many of which are in colour. A charming study on the artistry of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, an English writer and philologist best known as the author of fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. This text explores Tolkien's talent for design from his childhood paintings to his final sketches. Written by Wayne Gordon Hammond, an American scholar, and his wife Christina Scull, a British researcher, both are best known for their works on Tolkien. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light shelf wear and minor chipping to the extremities. With library stickers to the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Library sticker and residue of library bookplate to the front endpaper. Library ink stamp to title page and reverse of title page. Very Good Indeed
