I can confidently vouch for the story as told by Jacko. He was reared by my uncle Perce and Thelma Jury at their home in Healesville. Having been rescued from a hollow tree by my Uncle Ern Jones, he was handed to Thelma as a little chick. I understand that eye contact of young birds renders them to be life long companions. Thelma was the personal guardian of what other birds regarded as strange. She guarded Jacko from predators and other kookaburras as he roamed in the garden. Jacko described it all through Dr Brooke Nicholls, who was a naturalist and family friend. He wrote the story based on Jacko's life and adventures. A star of stage and screen Jacko travelled Australia entertaiining movie goers in the days of the 'silent movie', kids were enthralled to hear him laugh on Thelma's command which he did long and often. The Regal recording of his laugh is wonderful to listen to. I have heard some people question Jacko's story, I have no hesitation in verifying his life and times. Enjoy reading the book.
