About This Item

Dublin: M.H. Gill & Son, Ltd., 1950. One of the most famous and influential books of modern Irish history. Mitchel, a militant revolutionary, was convicted of sedition and transported to Tasmania by the British. Escaping to New York, he published his diary and founded "The United Irishman." It has been reprinted many times in the past 100 years. No publication date. Per OCLC, this is most probably the edition of 1950. A Near Fine copy. Green cloth binding with gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; xlvii, 463 pages. Preface by Arthur Griffith. Frontis illustration and 36 others within. The textblock is fresh and bright; contemporary inscription in Irish on FFEP; light offsetting to the endpapers; corners lightly bumped. The dustwrapper is complete and unclipped, with light edgewear, showing some tan to the white areas. In an archival plastic protector. Withal, a very nice copy of an important work. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Reprint Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good Plus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
