About This Item
Gammel's Book Store Book. Very Good. Hardcover. (1927), 200pp, illustrated. Bookplate removed from front pastedown, small area on title page thinned. The "Texas" in the title is somewhat misleading. The author was from Tennessee and left home, he says, in 1885, when he was about sixteen years of age. Many of his exploits took place in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and his home state of Tennessee, where he claims to have cleaned up the town of Allenscreek. He moved to Texas later in life after his hell-raising days were over. It is certainly a colorful tale and, of course, one has to wonder how much of it is true and how much of it is good story telling..
