About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1963. [Literature] FIRST AMERICAN HARDCOVER EDITION, following the UK magazine appearance and a Limited Edition printing in wraps. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.414. Publisher's hardback cloth binding in dust-jacket, priced at $5.95. Very near fine. This copy has an interesting provenance, having belonged initially to bibliographer Donald Gallup, then sold by respected San Franciscan bookseller Peter Howard/Serendipity Book Shop (with his handwritten note within) to Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership to half title). Connolly was a friend and colleague of ian Fleming, and was commissioned by The London Magazine (run by another friend of Fleming, Alan Ross) to write this Bond parody / tribute. It appeared in April 1963 in magazine form and later in 1963 published separately in a softcover edition of only 50 copies. This is the first U.S. hardback edition. Gilbert, pp.608-9, 638, 671.
