London: F. E. Robinson & Co, 1903. Limited Edition. Full leather. Very Good. Small 8vo. Pp. lx, 157. Frontis. Montrose portrait photogravure reproduction. With notes and index. Black morocco, elaborate decorations surrounding royal coat of arms stamped in gilt front and back, spine gilt fleur de lys diapered, red watered silk endpapers, gilt tops, title page with ornamental border, hand-numbered 134 of an edition limited to 320. Spine faded to dark brown although gilt remains brilliant, edges minimally rubbed, title page with transfer toning from frontis., leaves crisp and bright and uncut after p. xxiv. Binding tight. The origin and motifs of the gilt decorations are described in Cyril Davenport's "Note on the Binding," pp. ix-xv. A very well preserved copy with great shelf appeal.
