About This Item

Adelaide: The Wakefield Press, 1944. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. Adelaide, The Wakefield Press, 1944. Octavo, [vi], 28, [1[ (colophon) pages. Plain card covers with the attached overlapping dustwrapper slightly creased at the extremities, and a little unevenly sunned; an excellent copy. The third publication of Harry Muir's Wakefield Press. The verso of the title page is signed by the author, and loosely inserted is an autograph letter signed from him to Harry Muir. Elliott writes to him on 19 August 1944 from the Highfield Hotel in Hobart: he has recently been in Melbourne ('a dull place in some ways, but it has its points'); the manager of the Melbourne University Press bookshop was 'very favourably impressed with "Vaux" and would like you to send him two or three copies for display - also copies of any other Australiana of your own printing ... Hobart, by the way, is so dead that it hasn't even heard of Ern Malley'.
