London: John Murray, 1913. Tall thick 8vo. vi, [8], 321, [1] pp. Title in red & black. Photogravure frontisp., numerous plates, 4 maps (1 large folding at end). Blue cloth, gilt lettering front cover & spine, t.e.g. (minor shelfwear, very minor bumping to corners, minor wear), still a VG- copy. First edition of this excellent Civil War biography detailing the career of General Wadsworth who survived the debacle at the First Battle of Bull Run under General McDowell, received the command of the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division I Corps, commanded the Military District of Washington, D.C., and was finally commander of the 2nd Division, II Corps at the Battle of Gettysburg. General Wadsworth’s Division bore the brunt of the Confederate attack on the first day of Gettysburg at the vanguard, suffering nearly 50% casualties, they then continued to fight at the defense of Cemetery Hill, and then Culp’s Hill. He was shot and killed later during the Battle of the Wilderness in May, 1864.
