About This Item

New York: Dover Publications, 1963. Book. Fine. Soft cover. First American Edition. First Edition in English. Octavo, goldenrod yellow stiff wraps (trade paperback). 240 pp plus "Catalogue of Dover Book". A complete guide to the use of the ancient Japanese abacus; a computational device of sliding coutners in a frame that allows the user to do many basic mathematical operations by manipulating the counters. Very generously illustrated throughout with diagrams, illustrating operations, problems, manipulations and solutions. Included with this volume is a boxed Japanese abacus with a 31 pp. "Abacus Introduction Book". The abacus is in wood with brass rods and Japanese characters in black. The sliding counters are dark brown (wood/plastic?). The book is in excellent condition; tight, clean, bright, square, crisp, glossy and unmarked with a flat uncreased spine. The spine is sun faded, else fine. The abacus is in perfect workiing condition, the small booklet is in perfect unused condition, and the box is in excellent condition but for a couple of short tears on one side, not affecting its integrity. A Near Fine volume with a Fine abacus with which to practice the exercises in the book, in a near fine box. A scarce complete kit for learning the Japanese abacus..
