About This Item

Boston: Houghton, Mifflin, 1910. First edition. Hardcover. Orig. black cloth lettered in gilt, decorated in red. Teg. Near fine. 468 pages. Edited by Elizabeth Bisland. Six illustrations. Index. The letters are to Basil Hall Chamberlain, to W.B. Mason and to Mrs. Hearn. The majority of letters are to Professor Chamberlain. Hearn was a shy man; the letter format suited his need for intimate communication and mental companionship -- in Ms. Bisland's view.
