London: Chatto & Windus, 1992. FIRST UK EDITION. Large 8vo. Original black cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Spine ends bruised. Gift inscription in blue pen to ffep: "Dear Rachel/ Happy Birthday!/ Love from Rach." Else, clean and tight. In R. D. Scudellari's wonderful pink, green, yellow and black dust jacket: price-clipped, creasing and wear tot spine ends. A pleasing copy of Morrison's second novel in the Beloved trilogy. Very good/ very good Set mostly during the Harlem Renaissance, but casting back to mid-C19th American South, this is the middle novel of Morrison's trilogy exploring love and African American history, which began with Beloved (1987) and closed with Paradise (1997).
